“Strengthen consumer movement”

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: Speakers at a training programme on ‘Consumer awareness and protection’ for the co-ordinators of the Consumer Clubs in higher secondary schools and colleges here underlined the need for strengthening consumer movement by sensitising the masses to unfair trade practices and anti-consumer activities.

They also explained various legal provisions protecting consumers’ rights and the responsibility of traders, producers and manufacturers in abiding by these laws in the larger interest of the people.

Collector D. Uthirakkumaran expressed serious concern over food adulteration of essential commodities which had an adverse impact on the health and hygiene of the masses. An exhibition on adulterated materials was organised as part of the training programme.
