Congress leaders should emphasise on developmental issues VIJAYAWADA: The city unit of the CPI alleged on Monday that the ruling Congress had made a hullabaloo over the construction of a compound wall around Uppalapati Ramachandra Raju Municipal School at Labour Colony in Vidyadharapuram as it had failed to focus on developmental issues in One Town. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, CPI floor leader in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) general body P. Gowtham Reddy said Congress leaders’ ultimatum to the Commissioner to pull down the compound wall was unwarranted. The Congress leaders should emphasise on developmental issues such as sanitation, underground drainage and property tax, instead of kicking up a controversy over petty issues, he said. Major problem“The Congress leaders portrayed the issue as a major problem to boost their image,” he said, adding that the incident had thoroughly exposed the internal bickerings in the Congress. The issue had snowballed into controversy, as the groups in the Congress tried to gain upper hand over the other, he felt. Instead of opposing the Commissioner’s decision to protect the Labour Department’s land, they should strive to ensure that the department transferred the land in its possession to the VMC to construct a stadium in One Town, he added.
