Two colleges default on tax payment

HYDERABAD: There was commotion in Osmania University’s College for Women at Koti and Nizam College on Monday when GHMC officials threatened to attach their properties for non-payment of property tax.

The civic body has earlier issued demand notices and even warrants asking the college managements to pay tax or face action.

Senior officials said that both the colleges and their hostels owed about Rs. 99 lakh to the Corporation as they had not been paying the property tax for 15 years.

Osmania University Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao had to intervene and promise to see that the payment were made after taking it up with the government.

The GHMC officials agreed to give two more days time, official sources said.
