COLOMBO: Forty LTTE members and six soldiers were killed in heavy clashes along the Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in the Northern battlefronts, said the Defence Ministry here on Monday. The Ministry said the Army launched several successful attacks on “fortified terror positions” in both Wanni and Jaffna defences. Six soldiers killedAlso, six soldiers were killed and 20 sustained injuries in the fighting. The Ministry said on the Mannar battlefront in the Wanni theatre of battle, heavy clashes continued from morning to noon in the Parayanakulama area as troops attacked the LTTE bunkers and trench defences. Exchange of artilleryThe military said exchange of artillery and mortars and sniper shootings were reported on the Vavuniya front. Separately, in a report posted on its website, the LTTE said: “Two pedestrians in the Mannakandal area near Oddusuddan in the Mullaithivu district were injured when Kfir bombers dropped bombs in this area early on Saturday morning at 6.45 a.m. and again at 6.55 a.m.”
