KOCHI: The preliminary report submitted by Fort Kochi RDO M.K. Joseph after conducting an inquiry into the fireworks accident at Maradu points to serious lapses on the part of organisers and authorities in ensuring the mandatory security aspects. Two persons were killed in the accident that occurred last Monday. The report observed that the distance between the place of blast and spectators was less than 50 m, whereas the law stipulated it should be 200 m, said A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, District Collector. The organisers had not taken the safety measures for the fireworks display. Also, it was suspected that the official agencies concerned did not conduct proper inspection of the material ahead of the blast.
