Kavya Madhavan Kavya Madhavan has featured in many a melodious song on screen, right from her days as a child artiste. Viewers have not yet forgotten the wide-eyed little girl in ‘Vennila chandanakinnam…’ some 12 years after ‘Azhakiya Ravanan’ was released. “That song is certainly one of my favourites. Many people still tell me how they loved my expressions in that song,” says Kavya, who has turned a lyricist herself recently; the song she wrote will feature in Bipin Prabhakar’s new film ‘One Way Ticket,’ in which she plays the female lead). She is quick to add that she did not plot to be a lyricist. “This song happened because of an experience that touched my heart deeply,” she explains. “One of my friends from my dance class back home in Kasaragod used to tell me about a boy who was a big admirer of my acting and dancing. I never could meet him as he died young from illness. I wrote a few lines out of the pain I went through when I heard the news. When the world came to know of the little poem I wrote, a suggestion that an album of my songs could be brought out came up. Though I was reluctant at first, I decided to go ahead eventually, as I liked the tunes composed by Arun and Anoop.” Two songs have already been recorded, in the voices of Gayatri and Jyotsna. “It is the Oppana song that is going to be used in the film. It was actor Prithviraj who told director Bipin about the song. When Bipin heard it, he thought it suited a situation in the film,” says Kavya. She hopes to record a song she wrote, about her childhood in her own voice. “But I keep on rewriting that song, so I don’t know when I would record it,” she smiles. Of the songs she lip-synced, Kavya is particularly fond of ‘Karimizhikuruviye…’ (Meesa Madhavan), ‘Manju peyyana…’ (Chandranudikkunna Dikkil), ‘Urangathe…’ (Gourishankaram), ‘Kalabham tharam…’ (Vadakkumnathan), ‘Chentharmizhi…’ (Perumazhakkalam) and ‘Pinakkamano…’ (Ananthabhadram). “I especially liked the way I was shot by Santhosh Sivan in ‘Pinakkamano….’ Never before has the camera captured my eyes so well,” says the girl with the most beautiful eyes in Malayalam cinema.
