The return of the plastic menace

The ban on plastics, announced with much fanfare and implemented with equal fervour, seems to have gone slack again. Awareness campaigns were dime a dozen and eco-friendly bags were the toast of the day.

But, the look of the roads post-Pongala was clear evidence that people have conveniently put all this behind them.

Mounts of plastic cups were strewn all along the roads to Peroorkada, Vattiyoorkavu and Pattom.
