Nagercoil: A study would be organised by the Conservation of Nature Trust and other non-governmental organisations to explore ways to stop the pollution and increase water quality in the Pazhayar river, one of the prime water resources of Kanyakumari district.
The chairman of the Conservation of Nature Trust, R.S. Lal Mohan, said water samples would be taken from 15 stations starting from its origin in Surulode to its endpoint Manakudi by covering 37 km.
“Though the river was pristine before 50 years, it is highly polluted, owing to mixing of sewages. Thousands take bath in it, wash clothes and even drink it. But unfortunately no attention is paid to improve the quality of the water. Many colonies or slums have come on the banks of the river.”
It would create an awareness among the people of keeping the river clean. The study would be done in association with the Department of Forest led by the District Forest Officer, Sundararaju, and president of Pazhayar Protection Movement, Tho. Nainar, and others.
