People wait on main road for bus
|
THANDARAMBATTU: Though Thandarambattu in Tiruvannamalai district has been bifurcated from the Chengam block and declared a separate taluk headquarter, residents complain that there are no proper basic amenities including a bus stand.
As a result, people have to keep standing on the main road to board a bus, rain or shine.
The district administration, in general, and the Thandarambattu panchayat, in particular, has not taken steps to construct a bus shelter for the convenience of the passengers.
Bus services erratic
Though 10 to 15 new bus routes have been introduced from Thandarambattu after it was declared a taluk, the bus services were erratic.
Passengers have to wait long for buses. During rush hour, the buses are overcrowded and school students are forced to travel on foot board.
M. S. R.Vanagamudi, vice-chairman, Thandarambattu Panchayat Union, said that there was no possibility of a separate bus stand in Thandarambattu because of the shortage of land.
There was no government-owned land in Thandarambattu for constructing a bus stand.
Almost all lands are owned by private parties. Procuring land from private parties have proved difficult as they demanded huge cost.
In fact, the panchayat was finding it difficult to locate land for a bus depot.
