BERHAMPUR: The 11th Berhampur book fair was inaugurated at the St. Stephens’ Church ground of the city on Tuesday evening by noted Oriya writer, Chandrasekhar Rath. Vice-Chancellor of the Berhampur University, Bijay Kumar Sahu, the chairperson of the organising committee, the RDC, Satyabrata Sahu and the Ganjam Collector, V.K.Pandian were present at the inauguration ceremony. Around 100 publishers and book sellers from all over the State and outside are taking part in this book fair. Some educational institutions have also opened their stalls at the venue to publicise their new courses. The SHG groups of the district also have a section of the fair dedicated to them where they would display and sell their handicrafts. Mr Rath expressed concern over dwindling reading habit among the youth. According to him reading can be done without reason for pure enjoyment. From this kind of reading a person learns much. The Ganjam district administration has also decided to tap the gathering at the book fair by initiating a district level Khadi and Gramodyog mela adjacent to the book fair venue. A stage and open air auditorium are also part of this book fair. Literary seminars, poetry recital sessions and traditional cultural shows would be organized here every evening said Pramod Panda, the secretary of the Berhampur Pustak Mela Samity, the organizer of this book fair.
