Need to offer children value education stressed
Contribution of ‘Galaganath’ recalled AGADI (HAVERI DISTRICT): The three-day centenary celebrations of Sri Sheshachala Sadguru Veda Pathashala and “Sadbhodha Chandrike” magazine began here on Tuesday. Inaugurating the celebrations at Ananda Vana at Agadi in Haveri district, the former Governor of Bihar M. Rama Jois said a society without religion had no value and would not survive. Mr. Jois said the respect that religion got, and its richness, couldn’t be equalled by anything material. Mr. Jois underscored the need for giving “dharma samskara” or value education to children and added that mothers had an important role to play in this regard. “Dharma Samskara” would help a person resist forces that beguile him or her into doing wrong things. The former Minister H.K. Patil recalled the contribution of “Galaganath,” who was instrumental in the growth of “Sadbodha Chandrike.” He said there was a strong need to set up a Chair at either the Kannada University at Hampi or the Karnatak University, Dharwad. Through the chair, studies could be conducted into Galaganath’s literary works, he added. Referring to the problems faced by farmers owing to the delay in the implementation of the Upper Tunga Project in the district, he stressed the need for making concerted efforts to solve them. Member of Parliament from Dharwad South Manjunath Kunnur, said he would try to get funds for the development of the Sanskrit pathashala and asked the seer of Ananda Vana to submit a proposal to him in this regard. Member of the Karnataka Public Service Commission M. Nagaraj spoke. Chidambaramurthy Chakravarti swamiji of Ananda Vana, Agadi, gave a detailed description of the activities of the math and the programmes organised as part of the centenary celebrations. Gangadharendra Saraswati Swamiji of the Swarnavalli Samsthana explained why the math had taken up the cause to spread the message of the “Bhagavad Geeta.” Sripad Bhat of Savadatti, Shrinivas Bhat of Banashankari, B.V. Malagi, Ajit Magavi and K.R. Lokhande of Haveri were honoured with the “Sadguru” award. A.M. Hindasageri, MLC; president of the Haveri Zilla Panchayat Kotreshappa Baseganni; the former MLA Basavaraj Shivannavar; and scholar Parashuram Ghanapati from Chennai were present.
