DAVANGERE: Activists of the Students’ Federation of India staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office urging the Union Government to withdraw its Order stating that Dalit students who score over 60 per cent in their examinations would be given scholarships. The SFI demanded that poor and Dalit students who applied for scholarships should be given them without stipulating any criteria. Apart from this, 30 per cent of seats in private colleges at all levels of education should be reserved for them, they demanded. Madhuchandra, president of the district unit of the SFI, and Prakash, vice-president led the agitation. — Staff Correspondent
