Under the e-library scheme, 30,000 books had been digitalised and adapted in libraries, he said. There were plans to digitise one lakh books at the earliest, he added.

Several universities had come forward to become partners in the e-library scheme, he said and added that researchers would benefit from it.

Mr. Rajendrakumar said that the UNESCO experts had hinted at implementing the scheme and developing all libraries into information centres on experiment basis.

Construction of library buildings was on in the five taluks of Uttara Kannada district, Mr. Rajendrakumar added.
