Sirsi: The UNESCO was keen on developing rural libraries in the State into centres of information, Director of the Department of Libraries P.Y. Rajendrakumar has said. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said Karnataka was the only State in the country to have libraries in all gram panchayat limits. Under the e-library scheme, 30,000 books had been digitalised and adapted in libraries, he said. There were plans to digitise one lakh books at the earliest, he added. PartnersSeveral universities had come forward to become partners in the e-library scheme, he said and added that researchers would benefit from it. Mr. Rajendrakumar said that the UNESCO experts had hinted at implementing the scheme and developing all libraries into information centres on experiment basis. Construction of library buildings was on in the five taluks of Uttara Kannada district, Mr. Rajendrakumar added.
