Move on new panel to study the backwardness of regions ridiculed ‘Telangana region should get funds in accordance with its population’ HYDERABAD: Senior Congress MLA Vuppunuthala Purushottam Reddy on Tuesday ridiculed the move to set up a commission to study the backwardness of regions as announced by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. In a chat with mediapersons in the Assembly lobbies, Mr. Purushottam Reddy said irrespective of the commission, Telangana region should get 47 per cent of the State funds for development in accordance with its population. “We will not remain silent if injustice is done to the region,” he said. More determinedOn the Chief Minister’s dinner meeting with CWC member G. Venkataswamy, he said the former “sang the same old song. There was nothing new in what he told us.” He said the meeting and the Chief Minister’s stand made them much more determined than ever. To another question, he said the Congress image had taken a dent with people perceiving it as a party which was deceiving them. “If we get a separate State and are allowed to go our way, we need not have to share such criticism.” He said people of the region were disappointed as GO 610 remains unimplemented. In the Assembly there was no discussion on the Nizam Sugar Factory. Dig at mediaOn the other hand, senior Congress legislator M. Satyanarayana Rao said there was no need to suspect the sincerity of the Chief Minister. Mr. Rao took a dig at the media “for creating differences between seniors and the juniors” and said the juniors were making their own effort. Asked if TRS president, K. Chandrasekhara Rao, would become a “hero or a zero”, with his resignation strategy, he said it would be decided by the people.
