Ravulapalem (East Godavari): A youth who is alleging that he is being harassed by police as well as son of Minister Gollapalli Surya Rao and his friends threatened to commit suicide on Tuesday by climbing a cell tower. However, police thwarted his attempt and brought down and took him into custody. According to DSP A. Subba Rao, Y. Premanand (30) runs a tent house shop in Ravulapalem. He was called on some work by the Minister’s son on January 20. The next day the Minister’s son Gollapalli Sridhar, Paka Ravi and Kondeti Nagaraju allegedly beat him up on pretext of stealing Sridhar’s laptop from his house. Premanand denied the charge and filed a complaint against the trio. The three friends also lodged a complaint against Premanand on January 21 stating that he has stolen their laptop. The case is under investigation. However, Premanand on Tuesday said that police as well as Gollapalli Sridhar and his friends were threatening him to withdraw assault case put on them and it harassing him daily. He said that with this torture he decided to commit suicide by jumping from cell tower. DSP Subbarao denied the charge of police pressurising or harassing Premanand.
