Thiruvanathapuram: Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar, who also holds the Railway Development portfolio, has expressed satisfaction at the Railway Budget that contains several project proposals put forward by the State government. At a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayakumar welcomed the Railway Budget in general, but reserved his special thanks to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for approving some of the major proposals the State government had put forward. “We acknowledge this and consider it recognition of our efforts,” he said. He said Kerala had demanded a rail industry and had decided to provide 1,000 acres of land in Kanjikode on the basis of top-level discussions. The Rs.1,000 crore allocation was a welcome move, he added. He said electrification and doubling of lines would be completed this year because of higher allocation, facilitating the induction of suburban trains by next year’s budget.
