Bangalore: Seven Congress leaders, including former ministers A. Krishnappa and Ramalinga Reddy, on Tuesday criticised the Sakrama notification issued by the State Government as its implementation would lead to demolition of lakhs of houses on unauthorised sites in the city and elsewhere. Speaking to presspersons, K.B. Munivenkata Reddy and R.V. Venkatesh, MLCs, and others urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to keep the notification in abeyance, until an elected government was in place, so that it could take a decision on the vexed issue. They expressed their gratitude to Mr. Thakur for trying to regularise the sites and houses on the basis of the master plan of 2015, instead of the comprehensive development plan of 1995. They were also happy that some relief was given to owners of sites measuring 20x30 ft. and 30x40 ft. by fixing Rs. 40 and Rs.1 60 per sq.m. of relief, respectively. However, the leaders said that no relief had been given to the owners of sites measuring more than 30x40 ft. Moreover, only the unauthorised sites were regularised and not the construction. A decision to demolish unauthorised constructions could not be taken retrospectively. Ninety per cent of the constructions were unauthorised violating the by-laws and the Congress would oppose any move to demolish them, they added. Mr. Krishnappa urged the Government to implement the report of the cabinet sub committee comprising the then ministers Ramalinga Reddy and S.R. Morey in toto as a one-time measure. They cautioned that the party would launch an agitation, if the advisers went ahead in implementing the notification affecting over 70 lakh people of Bangalore.
