Protest against scholarship norms

KOLAR: Scores of students under the banner of Students Federation of India taluk committee staged a dharna at Gandhi Park here on Tuesday. They were protesting against the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry’s decision to fix minimum 60 per cent marks for students belonging to Scheduled Castes to be eligible for the post-matriculation scholarship in the 11th Plan.

The protesters condemned the move which they alleged would divest the socially-oppressed student community from continuing higher education. — Staff Correspondent
