Laudable effort

Our Muslim brothers have openly condemned all forms of terrorism in their one-day convention at Durul Uloom, Deoband, in Uttar Pradesh, which is welcome. It is hoped that they will emerge as a strong force against terrorism and impress upon their youth not to be swayed away. Let India show the way for ending terrorism.

Chelladurai Williams,

Chennai

It is laudable that clerics, scholars and religious leaders among Muslims have denounced terrorism. Their message needs to be sent loudly across our neighbourhood which has become a launch-pad for terror directed against India.

Air Cmde Raghubir Singh (retd.),

The resolution condemning terrorism will clear several misgivings about the Muslim community and convey to the extremists that they can no longer take support for granted.

D. Uma,

The charge that Muslims are hounded by the police, the bureaucracy and the intelligence agencies in the name of terrorism is not wholly unfounded and baseless. Unfortunately, it is a reflection of the ground reality.

Seshagiri Row Karry,

Hyderabad

Intelligence agencies and the police are duty-bound to protect the sovereignty of our country. Besides condemning terrorism of all forms, the convention should have urged all terrorist and fundamentalist groups to shun violence and allow the citizens to live in peace. The recent arrests of highly qualified persons in Bangalore for their alleged terror links point to the rising trend of youths sympathising with the cause of terrorists and fundamentalists.

M.K. Madhusoodanan Pillai,

Port Blair
