Alfonso reigns

BANGALORE: Karl Alfonso of Catholic Club won the T.A. Selvaraj Open prize money snooker tournament. At the KSBA hall here on Tuesday, Karl downed Jasim Tawin, another parlour rookie, 4-2 for the title and the winners purse of Rs. 15,000. Jasim pocketed Rs. 10,000. Karl won 32-73, 51-13, 40-38, 38-66, 65-56, 56-26.

In the semifinals, Karl prevailed in a close contest over S. Shekar at 4-3 while Jasim won Yogesh in straight frames.

The results: Final: Karl Alphonso bt Jasim Tawin 32-73, 51-13, 40-38, 38-66, 65-56, 56-26. Semifinals: Jasim Tawin bt Yogesh 67-47, 58-02, 47-39, 60-35; Karl Alfonso bt S. Shekar 43-51, 46-31, 58-30, 09-62, 30-58, 60-52, 65-29. Quarterfinals: S. Shekhar bt Zulfikar Ahmed 50-24, 60-19, 36-52, 76-37, 58-38; Karl Alfonso bt M. R. Abdul Hameed 72-18, 60-29, 57-47, 46-52, 82-20; Jasim Tawin bt Arjun R. 76-29, 28-67, 49-30, 67-47, 60-19; Yogesh bt Nithin Joshi 73-31, 60-10, 63-39, 74-16.
