Gesture: R. Kuppanna, GM, State Bank of India, giving away a laptop computer to Priya Theodore, Director, Rehabilitation Centre for Blind Women, in Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: Teaching methods must be conceptualised so as to encourage understanding rather than rote-learning, the General Manager of State Bank of India, Chennai, R. Kuppanna, said on Saturday. Presiding over the inauguration of linguistic training programme for the inmates of Rehabilitation Centre for Blind Women, Mannarpuram, and Annai Ashram, Mr. Kuppanna said that teachers must be aware of uniqueness in learning process and instruct students in accordance with their interest and learning capabilities. Conceptualisation must be encouraged among visually impaired students to facilitate easy understanding of academics. Accept responsibilitiesHe urged the visually challenged inmates of the centre to accept responsibilities that come their way. Indian pedagogy had been distinctive, he said, urging the educationists to create opportunities for the disabled to help them grow in their respective domains. The Head of the Department of Tamil, Bharathidasan University, Radha Chellapan inaugurated theprogramme. Mr. Kuppanna distributed scholarships to the inmates of Annai Ashram and a laptop for Rehabilitation Centre. The Honorary Director of Rehabilitation Centre Priya Theodore, Director of Annai Ashram M. Kamakshi and the Managing Trustee of Senator Educational and Charitable Trust, Chennai, M. S. Illan Kumaran spoke.
