Mother Teresa awards given

NEW DELHI: The first Mother Teresa International Humanitarian Award has been conferred on UNAIDS executive director Peter Piot and U.S. Global AIDS co-ordinator Mark Dybul who are leading the implementation of U.S. President’s emergency plan for AIDS relief.
The awards were presented at a function organised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference in India (CBCI) here on Tuesday. The award, constituted by the CBCI Health Commission, is designed to recognise individuals who have demonstrated the same humanitarian exemplified by Mother Teresa. “Both the award winners are pioneers who continue to lead the global fight against the spread of HIV and area leaders who work with passion in making a difference in the lives of people who living with HIV especially in developing countries. In this regard, they are leaders who, like Mother Teresa, are trying to make a difference to humanity,” said CBCI Health Commission chairman Bernard Moras.
