More players likely in engineering entrance

HYDERABAD: Minority candidates seeking a seat in engineering courses might have to appear for three tests this year what with the Planning Coordination and Monitoring Board for Minorities (PCMB) also planning to conduct a separate test for admission to some selected minority engineering colleges.

The PCMB, officials said, approached the National Commission for Minorities seeking its intervention fearing that they might not be allowed to conduct the test as was the case last year. The Commission has now asked the A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for details.

Interestingly, the PCMB is yet to submit its request to the APSCHE to be recognised as a group. Once it is recognised by the APSCHE it can approach the Admission and Fee Regulation Committee (AFRC) seeking permission for the test.

Interestingly, not all the minority colleges prefer to be a part of the PCMB and only those colleges under the Shadan group and a few others in the districts have been a part of PCMB in the earlier attempts.

Some of the top Muslim minority colleges have been traditionally choosing the EAMCET conducted by the Government while some others, a couple of years ago made an attempt to form a different group along with some Christian minority colleges.

If the PCMB gets permission, minority colleges will end up writing three tests as the consortium of private engineering colleges has also made its intentions clear to go for a separate test apart from EAMCET.
