CHENNAI: Police arrested nearly 45 persons on Tuesday morning for staging a demonstration in front of two liquor outlets of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) in Triplicane.
According to police, members of a traders’ body were protesting in front of the two outlets on Triplicane High Road demanding their closure. Police rounded up the demonstrators and detained them in the police station.
They were released in the evening.
Bomb hoax
A garment manufacturing unit in Ambattur Industrial Estate received a telephone call around 10.45 p.m. on Monday night stating that a bomb had been planted in the company and it would explode in 15 minutes.
Sniffer dogs were deployed and the area was checked.
But a three-hour search revealed that the call was a hoax. Police traced the call to a public call office in Anna Nagar.
