“Commisioner expressed inability to implement resolutions in view of objection letters” DMK councillors, allies stay away from urgent meeting convened on November 13 KANCHEEPURAM: The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam councillors are planning to move the Madras High Court for seeking a direction to the Kancheepuram Municipal Commissioner to implement the resolutions passed at the recent council meetings. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Municipal Chairman V. Rajendran and councillors of the AIADMK N. Manoharan and T. A. Kannan alleged that the Municipal Commissioner had expressed his inability to implement the resolutions in view of objection letters submitted to him by the councillors of the DMK and its allies. In their first objection letter submitted on August 31, 2007, they demanded that 5 out of 58 resolutions, tabled at the fifth council meeting, should be scrapped. In the second letter dated September 21, 2007, they demanded that all 37 resolutions tabled for that meeting be kept in abeyance since 27 councillors had submitted a no-confidence motion against the chairman, Mr. Rajendran said. “Again on October 29, 2007, they demanded that all 77 resolutions taken up for discussion at the seventh council meeting be kept in abeyance, stating that I was acting in an autocratic manner”, he added. Moreover, the councillors of the DMK and allies stayed away from an urgent meeting, convened on November 13 at the instance of the Office of the Commissioner for Municipal Administration to pass a resolution to initiate the re-tender process for the ongoing underground sewage network expansion project. The councillors have, once again, submitted objection letters to the Commissioner, demanding that resolutions tabled at the ninth and tenth council meetings held on December 28, 2007 and February 19, 2008, be kept in abeyance without any valid reason, said Mr. Manoharan. “Several infrastructure development works aimed to improve basic amenities in the town have been kept pending and some of them are at the stage of getting diverted to other municipalities, in view of the stand adopted by the councillors of the DMK and its allies against the Municipal Chairman”, he alleged.
