Amendments can be made to Railway budget: Moily
HYDERABAD: All India Congress Committee general secretary Veerappa Moily has said that amendments can be made to ensure that inadequacies, if any, in allocations made to Andhra Pradesh in the Railway budget are removed.
Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi can take up the matter and ensure that the State is given its due, he said.
Mr. Moily was responding to queries about the Opposition’s criticism of meagre allocations made to the State in the Railway budget,
Mr. Moily who arrived here late on Tuesday evening said the budget presented by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was pro-poor in its totality and reflective of the UPA coalition’s commitment to the common man.
Even as the Indian Railways were making profits, efforts were made to ensure that the fares were not hiked and they were, in fact, lowered.
About his visit, he said he would visit Prakasam and Guntur districts. He appreciated Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for his prompt action and all out effort in announcing Rs. 130 crore relief package to the affected farmers.
