LPG short supply fuels protest

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A total of 72 members of the Revolutionary Youth Front were arrested when they attempted to stage a protest on Grand Southern Trunk Road in Pallavaram on Monday morning. They planned to squat on the road to protest the erratic supply of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in Pallavaram and nearby areas.

Following the closing down of an Indane distributorship on Dargah Road, Pallavaram, some months ago, subscribers were diverted to other agencies, including one in Maduvankarai near Guindy.

Senior citizens, office-goers and housewives found it difficult to contact the agency in Maduvankarai for booking refills, members of the Front said. Cylinders took several weeks to be delivered, the members complained.
