Corporation says it has to pay Rs. 1.8 lakh as water tax
|
TIRUPUR: The Tirupur Corporation on Tuesday disconnected the supply of drinking water to Tirupur Railway Station following non-payment of water tax since 1999.
Corporation officials said that the railway authorities had failed to remit water charges from 1999.
Reminders
Despite repeated reminders the railway authorities did not remit Rs. 1.8 lakh towards water tax and Rs. 7 lakh towards service tax. After disconnecting water supply to the railway station, Corporation officials said that they would initiate steps to attach railway properties to collect Rs. 7 lakh towards service tax.
Negligence on the part of some officials would affect the travelling public and railway staff.
A senior official of Tirupur Corporation said that a number of Government departments and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited were found to be defaulting on payment of taxes to the Corporation.
