TEA hails reduction in train fares

TIRUPUR: The Tirupur Exporter Association has welcomed the reduction in passenger fares and concessions given in freight tariff in the Railway Budget.

TEA president A. Sakthivel in a statement appreciated the measures planned for improvement in ticketing services and other amenities in the coaches. Establishment of 48 new Containers Depots and private investments for loading in terminal would help increase the investment in railway infrastructure, which is need of the hour, he said.

While welcoming the introduction of nine new trains to Tamil Nadu, Mr. Sakthivel said the budget had failed to introduce new train services from Coimbatore. He was disappointed at the non-introduction of a night train to Bangalore, which was demanded by various associations. He wanted the new train from Thiruvananthapuram to Amritsar to connect Coimbatore.
