Coimbatore: The Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways has invited applications and nominations for the 5th National Road Safety awards from voluntary organisations and individuals. The Union Ministry has asked the State Transport Department and the Regional Transport Offices to forward applications from eligible organisations and individuals who had worked in the field of road safety with a minimum experience of three years, a release here has said. NGOs and individuals who had worked in the field of road safety with commendable work and appreciable contributions could apply for the award. Applications for the awards should be submitted in a prescribed format through the respective Transport Commissioners and Secretaries before February 29 and no application should be sent directly to the Ministry. The award for individuals included a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, a certificate and a trophy and the runner up would get a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and a certificate. InstitutionsThe award for institutions and NGOs would carry Rs. 1 lakh, a certificate and a trophy and the runner up would be awarded Rs. 30,000 and a certificate.
