‘Vision 2025’ to be readied in six months
Sandeep Joshi
NEW DELHI: In his budget speech on Tuesday, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad made a special mention of a “Vision 2025” document aimed at sustaining the “magical turnaround” of the Railways for the next 17 years.
“To be finalised within six months, the document will set targets for the coming 17 years for operational performance and upgrading of services. It will also have an action plan for achieving the targets and necessary investment plans needed to fulfil them,” Mr. Prasad said.
Reiterating the Railways’ commitment to improving passenger amenities and upgrading infrastructure, Mr. Prasad said the document would also contain details of customer-centric modern passenger services and various freight schemes to sharpen the competitive edge of the organisation.
Comfort & convenience
“Route-wise planning would be done to reduce traffic bottlenecks, expand the network and modernise the Railways. Passenger services will be governed by two words — comfort and convenience.”
