Phoolan murder accused plea rejected

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A court here on Tuesday refused to accept the demand of Sher Singh Rana, prime accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case, to shift his case from the court where the trial is currently going on.

Patiala House courts in-charge Additional Sessions Judge Mamata Sehgal told Rana that she was not in a position to give any relief to him. If he wanted, he could move an application in the court of the district judge, she added.

Earlier, the public prosecutor had opposed Rana’s application saying the accused was adopting delaying tactics.

Rana had complained in his application that he did not have faith in Additional Sessions Judge V.K. Bansal who is now hearing the nearly seven-year-old case. Rana had alleged that the ASJ was using coercive methods in recording testimonies of witnesses.

The prime accused had first moved the application in the court of ASJ Bansal, who had then marked it to ASJ Mamata Sehgal.
