This Day That Age
Indonesian Army commandos have been sent to the North Celebes area, where local leaders have pledged loyalty to rebel Central Sumatra, it was officially announced on February 26. Army headquarters said that its troops had taken the town of Gorontalo, a key area in the North Celebes. This was the first public indication the Indonesian Central Government planned military action beyond raids over rebel areas. The Attorney General, Mr. Suprapto, on February 26 ordered the seizure of current issues of three American publications, New York Times Weekly Review, Newsweek and Time. He said the issues contained news of rebel Central Sumatra which gave a “distorted picture of the situation.”
