Special train to Shencottah sought

RAJAPALAYAM: The Rajapalayam Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sought introduction of a regular express train between Shencottah and Chennai Egmore and a weekly special train to cater to the rush during summer vacation.

In a memorandum sent to the General Manager, Southern Railway, the chamber secretary, S.N. Rama Raju, said that the railway had meted out step motherly treatment to the people of Rajapalayam region but not operating summer specials.

He pointed out that despite running several regular express trains in the Nagercoil-Chennai sector, the railway has announced many special train there.

Stating that Shencottah-Madurai passenger train No. 784 that was being operated as a link to the Tuticorin-Mysore express train has been running late by more than 30 minutes resulting in passengers missing the express, he urged the General Manager to set it right.
