BHUBANESWAR: As part of its initiative to promote world cinema among the city folks here, the Film Society of Bhubaneswar has announced screening of two award-winning films at the Jayadev Bhawan on Friday. Award-winning moviesWinner of the Silver Lion award for the Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in 1998, “Black Cat, White Cat”, would be the first film to be screened in the evening. It was directed by Emir Kostunica of Bosnia and Herzegovina. ComedySet on the banks of the Danube River, this colourful comedy has extensively used the music composed by the filmmaker’s famous travelling gypsy band. Kostunica’s position in contemporary European cinema is unique. He is a filmmaker who can capture the sheer exuberance of life in all its wonder and richness”, the hosts of the event stated. Documentary“Iraq in fragments”, the other film of the evening is made by the American filmmaker James Longley. The film was the winner for the Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Editing awards at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival’s documentary competition section. The filmmaker spent more than two years filming the war-torn Iraq to create this documentary. It tells the tale of the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds during the war days in Iraq.
