TDP protests Council Chairman’s remark

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam members staged a demonstration, by covering their mouths with black cloth, in protest against a remark by the Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani on their leader Dadi Veerabhadra Rao in the Council on Tuesday. They squatted in the well of the House and held up the proceedings until Mr. Chakrapani adjourned the business. Thereafter, they had a long meeting with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in his chambers after which they also met Mr. Chakrapani and announced calling off of the demonstration.

Dr. Reddy appealed to the TDP group to forget the past and participate in the proceedings. The CPI and CPI (M) floor leaders Puvvada Nageswara Rao and C. Sitaramulu respectively also appealed to the members to give up the protest since Mr. Chakrapani had agreed to allot sufficient time to Mr. Veerabhadra Rao to present the TDP’s stand on the Budget. Mr. Veerabhadra Rao lashed out at the Government for taking up irrigation projects with the sole objective to indulge in corruption.
