Tech talk: Raghuvesh Sarup explains the new navigation devices on Wednesday in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: Feeling uncertain about the route you should take to reach a destination in time? Unable to decide about the pharmacy or hospital that should be approached in cases of emergency?

Mobile giant Nokia has a solution for those opting for its latest device 6110 Navigator. The new device is equipped with pre-installed maps of cities incorporating information of restaurants & hotels, banks and ATMs, hospitals and pharmacies, places of worship and other important points of interest nearby or in any worldwide location.

What is more, users can access detailed information about the point of interest like the address and telephone number. This will not only enable users to find the location of say a restaurant nearby, but also book for a table on the mobile.

One should not only be content with the route displayed on their mobile to reach the destination of his/her choice.

The mobile offers ‘voice-guided navigation’ in that the mobile “speaks out” the directions and automatically calculates a new route, if a wrong turn is made.

The company has currently hosted maps of eight cities – National Capital Region, New Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai – and efforts are under way to include more cities in the coming days.

Integrated GPS

Nokia currently has five devices with integrated GPS including the Navigator, N95 & N95 8GB and the E90 Communicator.

The company, according to Nokia India Programme Portfolios and Categories head Raghuvesh Sarup, aims to cater to the increasing demand for mobile maps and navigation systems.

The market for mobile navigation tools and location based services is expected to cross the US $ 30 billion mark worldwide (Rs. 1.2 lakh crore) by the end of the current year.
