S.J. Chiru. THENI: Top priority would be given for speedy implementation of all government- sponsored welfare schemes. “Our aim is to take to these schemes to the people as quickly as possible. Equal importance would be given for maintenance of law and order,” said Collector Shunchongam Jatak Chiru. Talking to presspersons after assuming office here on Wednesday, he said all efforts would be made to speed up ongoing schemes and projects. The government has announced several welfare schemes. District administration will make all efforts to take these schemes to the people. Top priority would also be given to meet the basic needs of people. Steps would be taken to solve genuine problems of people, particularly poor and downtrodden. Smuggling of PDS riceWhen informed about prevalence of smuggling of public distribution system rice, he said revenue and civil supplies officials would be suitably instructed to restrict illegal activities. Mr. Chiru had started his career as sub-collector in Nagapattinam and served as Additional Collector for Nilgiris district and project director for development of tribal people. He had served as Collector for Pudukottai and Kanniyakumari districts. Later, he was transferred from Kanniyakumari and posted as Collector for Theni district. Former collector Har Sahay Meena handed over the charge to Mr. Chiru at his office in the morning. Mr. Meena was transferred to Chennai.
