Thiruvananthapuram
He had said that High Court Bench in the city was “not practical” THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association on Wednesday urged H.L. Dattu, Chief Justice, Kerala High Court, to retract his statement against the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital city. The Chief Justice on Tuesday, citing a Full Court meeting held during the tenure of Justice K.T. Thomas as Acting Chief Justice, had said that it was “not practical and feasible” to set up a High Court Bench in Thiruvananthapuram. Reacting to the statement, the Bar Association pointed out that High Court Benches at Madurai in Tamil Nadu and Hubli in Karnataka too had been created despite opposition from their respective High Courts. It was inappropriate on the part of the Chief Justice to make comments regarding the setting up of the High Court Bench in the capital city at a press conference, a release issued by C.K. Sitaram, president, Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association, said. FRAT demandMeanwhile the Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram, has called for the removal of the Chief Justice over his comments. The remark is an infringement on the rights of the Legislature and the Executive, a release issued by Parinayam Devakumar, general secretary of the Association, said. Moreover, the setting up a Bench here can save the State exchequer an annual expenditure of Rs.100 crore, the release added.
