KOCHI: The Department of Electronics of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has bagged a Rs.95-lakh project on ‘Development of miniaturised archival tags for the study of tuna fishes’ sanctioned by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The project is part of the Marine Living Resources Programme of the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. P.R.S. Pillai, principal investigator of the project, said in a press release that the project would be implemented at the Centre for Ocean Electronics, Department of Electronics. The development of the prototype archival electronics tags, started during the fag end of the last Plan period, is nearing completion. The project, proposed to be carried out during the 11th Plan period, envisaged the development of miniaturised archival tags by integrating the prototype as hybrid micro circuits (HMC) or using the built-in memory chip fabricated with the foundry support. The implementation of this project will lead to the generation of indigenous know-how for the fabrication of miniaturised tags with improved capabilities and battery life using the HMC or specialised built-in memory IC hardware, claimed the press release.
