Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Oommen Chandy on Wednesday accused the LDF government of delaying several development and pro-poor projects launched by the UDF government, as a result of which the government would incur higher costs. Winding up the three-day debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, Mr. Chandy said that the LDF government had inexplicably and irrationally delayed these projects, but was forced to change its stand in each case, be it the metro rail, Kannur airport, Technocity, KSTP, TCIP, National Highway expansion, LNG terminal, or ADB loan. He said that the State government would incur an additional expense of Rs.1,000 crore on the proposed metro rail only because it stalled the proposal on the advice of the Planning Board vice-chairman. The UDF government had made special allocation for acquisition of land for Kannur airport, besides setting up a special team to expedite the process. The LDF government did not pay the salary of the staff for the last six months. The LDF created a hue and cry over land acquisition for Technocity, only to approve the 205 hectares for the project after losing two years. The KSTP and the TCIP were delayed for trivial reasons, costing the State an additional Rs.120-crore. He said the LDF had failed to come up with development projects of its own and all the current announcements were ones that had been promoted by the UDF government.
