Policeman’s wife commits suicide

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A 23-year-old woman committed suicide in her house in Binnur Main Road near R.T. Nagar on Wednesday. Parents of the victim have accused her father-in-law, who is an Assistant Sub Inspector, and her husband of dowry harassment.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Syed Ulfat Hussain, Roopa hanged herself from the ceiling of her room in the afternoon when there was nobody in the house. Later Roopa’s father-in-law Kempegowda, who works in R.T. Nagar, came and found the house locked from inside. He broke open the door and saw Roopa hanging.

Kempegowda then called Roopa’s parents staying in Girinagar and informed about the incident. Roopa’s parents got angry and came with some relatives to Kempegowda’s house.

They destroyed some articles in the house and accused Kempegowda and his son Lokesh of harassing Roopa for dowry. Roopa’s parents then filed a complaint with R.T. Nagar police.

Mr. Hussain said Roopa had left a suicide note holding nobody responsible for her death. She mentioned in the suicide note that her one-and-a-half-year old son should be given to her elder brother.

Mr. Hussain said police would look into the allegations made by Roopa’s parents before taking action against Kempegowda and his son Lokesh, who works with a private company.
