Special Correspondent
Raghotham Rao
HYDERABAD: Setting at rest the speculation over the past several days about the new Chief Secretary, the Government appointed the senior most IAS officer, A. Raghotham Rao, to the top slot in the bureaucracy.
Mr. Rao, who is Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and Special Chief Secretary, is due for retirement on superannuation by the end of April this year but has reportedly been given to understand by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy that he will be allowed a three-month extension. Mr. Rao is an IAS officer of the 1970 batch.
His appointment as the 29th Chief Secretary was announced after the Cabinet bade farewell to the present incumbent J. Hari Narayan on Thursday evening. Led by the Chief Minister, the Cabinet adopted a resolution placing on record the valuable services rendered to the State by Mr. Hari Narayan. The Chief Secretary thanked the Chief Minister and expressed satisfaction over the cooperation he received from the Government.
