KOCHI: The Special Investigation Group-II of the Ernakulam Crime Branch arrested a person on charges of cheating. The accused had been absconding for the last two years. According to the police, the accused, Udayan, 26, of Madathail Thekkethil, Lakshamveedu Colony, Karunagappally, Kollam, got admitted to Santhwanam Charitable Society here pretending that he was impaired in hearing and speech. However, he was asked to leave when the authorities found that his claims were false. He then continued to approach people using the label of the Society and collected money before going into hiding. Kalamassery police had registered a case in this connection, which was later handed over to the Crime Branch.
