Oakridge school coming up

VISAKHAPATNAM: Oakridge International School, the first International Baccalaureate (IB) World School of Andhra Pradesh located in Hyderabad, will launch its new venture in schooling -- Westwood International School -- in the city from the academic year 2008-2009.

Announcing it at a media conference here on Thursday, Oakridge group vice-president Janajit Ray said that Oakridge International School with its holistic and internationally benchmarked and recognised curriculum would have the facilities of international standards.

Each classroom would be of 500 sq feet and Internet enabled. The school would have classes from nursery to XII. It would shift to its permanent 10-acre campus at Tagarapuvalasa on the outskirts of the city from the academic session of 2009-10. In its first year of operation, the school would admit only day boarders.

The average annual fee would be Rs. 52,000 for day boarders.

The teacher-student ratio would be 1:15 and all pre-primary classes would have two teachers per section.

There would be maximum of 30 children in every section of each class.

Residential facilities were being planned for 120 girls and 300 boys.

By way of the curriculum, the school would seek affiliation to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the entire school and at the same time be a University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Centre.

The school would have several state-of-art laboratories for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), physics, chemistry, biology, environmental studies, mathematics and for languages and activity rooms for art and craft, yoga, dance, music and multimedia work.
