HYDERABAD: Depression over failure to get promoted to the third year drove a B.Sc. (CABM) student K. Damoder Reddy to commit suicide in his hostel room of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University on Thursday, the police said. No suicide note was found. Hailing from Boyanapally mandal of Karimingar district, Reddy was a second year student. He failed in bio-chemistry in first year. Since then, he had been appearing for the exam regularly, but could not secure pass marks. Three days ago, the university announced results of the compartmental exams. Reddy slipped into depression as he failed to clear the backlog bio-chemistry paper. “Though he had another backlog paper of second year, clearing all subjects of first year is must to be promoted to third year,” the Rajendranagar SI A. Chandrashekhar explained. The third year classes already began a fortnight ago. The student did not come out of his room No. 30 of B-Hostel in the morning. His friends found his room doors bolted from inside on return from college for lunch. They peeped through the window and saw his body hanging from the ceiling. The police said Reddy ended his life by hanging himself to the ceiling fan using bed linen. A case of suspicious death under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered.
