Traders’ association unhappy with budget

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES), a traders’ organisation in the State, has come down heavily on the budget proposals. The budget had no proposals to rein in entry of retail giants. None of the proposals would be beneficial to the 25 crore small traders in the country, T. Nazirudeen, KVVES State president, said.

The budget has also ignored 20 crore unemployed youths. Some of the agrarian proposals will benefit only farmers of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The proposal to raise the income tax exemption limit from Rs 1.10 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh was not attractive. Setting aside one-sixth of the resources for national security was illogical. “Neighbours like Pakistan and Bangladesh, are facing internal problems. So there is no need to allot a substantial amount for security,” Mr. Nazirudeen said.
