A view of KK Nagar Madurai.

Madurai is a city that is undergoing continuous changes and expansion. One important area that is involved in this extension process is Kalaignar Karunanidhi Nagar, popularly reffered to as K.K Nagar.

“This is a real estate booming ground. Its potential is multiplying every day. Each cent costs in lakhs. This is undoubtedly one of the most thriving areas in Madurai city” says excited, Dr.Ashok who owns a piece of land in this hotspot..< /p>

K.K.Nagar is undeniably a vital area buzzing with diversified activities. There are a lot of things going on in and around the place.

With special emphasis on health care centres, there are specialised medical clinics for kidney, neurology, ortho, and ENT treatment. City, S.K, Senthil, A.K, Kasi, PAMC, Jawahar and Apollo are some of the hospitals in the area that can be listed in the top 10 of the city.

In the same way it has well established educational institutions like the

M.S.S.Wakf board college, Mahatma school, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Arul Malar convent and Law College. The district court and a few newspaper offices fall in this zone.

Another significant charm of the area is wedding halls. The city’s costliest marriage mahals Raja Muthaih Mandram, Velayutha Nadar Mahal, Vijay Mahal, S.V.Kalyana Mandapam, Ananda Maligai, Lakshmi Arasu Kalyana Mandapaml and Vasantha Maligai are located here.

“Say K.K.Nagar to any outsider of the area, they will immediately utter super deluxe constructions and luxurious bungalows. But the place has got inhabitants of all income groups, comments Mr.Baskaran, a senior citizen living in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board homes for the past 25 years.

“Today, the place has undergone terrific changes. Some fifteen to twenty years back, the Vandiyur tank was the major recreation spot. In those days a mini train was operated in the evenings in which we used go for jolly rides for just two rupees, even boating was available. Today it has completely changed, said Mr.Sugumaran, an old time resident of K.K.Nagar.
