“Give 50 per cent reservation for women”
Staff Reporter
Nagercoil: The Social Action Movement here has urged the Government to provide 50 per cent reservation for women in all departments. A resolution to this effect was passed at its meeting here on Thursday.
The members selected Joseph Yesuvadian as in-charge for their bulletin, ‘Valar Kumari.’ They also decided to conduct seminars on topics such as insurance schemes for the poor, women, State and Central budget, water resources, national rural health mission, alternative livelihood means, child protection, globalisation, privatisation and liberalisation.
The movement wanted the Government to appoint an officer to deal with domestic violence at the taluk-level. The State Government must take efforts to delegate powers of National Commission for Women to a State panel. It must set up custody homes for victims of domestic violence. It will conduct a seminar on domestic violence here on March 4, said the district convener A. Maria James.
