SDC (Tirunelveli) makes last eight

Madurai: Converting three penalty corners out of the five earned, Special Development Centre, Tirunelveli, edged past Ever Great Hockey Club, Vadipatti, 3-2 to enter the quarterfinals of the Hi-Tech Arai-IOC ninth annual State-level hockey tournament for BJPM Trophy at Thirunagar ground here on Friday.

Muthu gave Development Centre the lead, converting the first penalty corner in the 10th minute, but Chidambaram equalised for Ever Great Club in the next two minutes. Muthu again pumped in a penalty corner in 23rd minute for a 2-1 lead at the interval. Saravanan equalised in the 38th minute before Abi converted another penalty corner for Development Centre in the 45th minute. In the remaining time.

Madurai makes 114

Coimbatore was 51 for two in 31 overs at close of play, after bundling out host Madurai, which opted to bat first, for a paltry 114 runs in 64.3 overs, riding on a fine bowling performance from Vignesh Karthick (five for 24) and Adithya (four for 24), on the opening day of the three-day final of the TNCA inter-district under-13 cricket tournament at Madura College ground, Madurai on Friday.

Ateek (37) and Varun (26 not out) were the only two players, who reached double figures for Madurai.

Selvaraj scores a brace

A brace by Selvaraj helped AUCPE defeat G.T.N. Arts College, Dindigul, 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 17th annual State-level inter-collegiate football tournament for Selva Trophy organised by AUCPE Alumni Association at Karaikudi on Friday.

Two wins for Rafat

Tiruvarur posts win

At Ariyalur, Tiruvarur defeated Nagapattinam 4-1 in a league encounter of the regional-level hockey tournament here on Friday. In another match, Namakkal edged past Perambalur 1-0.

It’s a tie

At Tiruchi, the league encounter in Tiruchi DCA women’s cricket tournament between Government Law College and National College ended in a tie on Friday.

Vanathi 20) tied with National College 36 for one in eight overs; Holy Cross College 42 for one in eight overs bt Srirangam Girls HSS 21 for five in eight overs; Urumu Dhanalakshmi College 28 for four in eight overs (S.
